THINGS TO DO IN
PENANG
1) Penang Hill, or Flagstaff Hill (Bukit Bendera) as it is officially known, rises 821 metres above sea level, providing a welcome break from the heat below. One of Penang’s most popular attractions, a trip up is a not-to-be-missed experience, providing visitors with breathtaking views of the whole island all the way to the top. The best way to reach the summit is to hop onboard the funicular train that travels all the way up in half an hour. Highlights at the peak include a pretty Hindu temple, church, mosque and even a snake show where you can take photos with a tame python for a fee.

2) Fort Cornwallis is one of Penang’s most well known landmarks. Within its ten-foot-high walls (which are laid out in the shape of a star), you can see a 17th century chapel, some prison cells, ammunition storage area, and more. There are even some pretty cool old bronze cannons, including a Dutch one which superstitious locals believe has a positive effect on women’s fertility. Named after Charles Cornwallis, the former Governor General of India, it was originally built entirely out of wood, but refurbishment over the years has led to its current concrete facade.

3) Kapitan Keling Mosque is a Penang landmark. Built in 1801 by Penang’s first Indian Muslim settlers (East India Company troops), the Indo-Moorish structure is set at the junction of Lebuh Buckingham and Lebuh Pitt.
It is the largest mosque in Georgetown and looks sublime at sunset. It was named after the ‘kapitan’ of the Keling (a leader of the South Indian community similar to the leader of the Chinese community), Cauder Mydin Merican. The whitewashed mosque is topped with large golden-yellow Mughal-style domes, crescents and stars and features a single, typical Indian-Islamic minaret from which the sound of the azan (call to prayer) can be heard.
4) The few hours spent at Escape Adventureland Penang are likely to rank as some of the most thrilling and emotionally-charged moments of your life. After all, hurtling speedily through the open air, dozens of feet off the ground, is pretty memorable. A park specialising in zip-lining (or, as Australians call it, flying foxes), there are other fun activities here including a free fall from a 20m jump platform, an inner-tube slide and tree rope swing.
5) Batu Feringhi beaches are a huge draw, but there’s so much more to do in this Malaysian hotspot. Frolic with the delicate residents of a butterfly farm, then explore the fragrant landscape of tropical spice garden and fruit farms. The massive collection of dolls, games and models at the Toy Museum brings joy to kids and kids at heart. Save some energy for the Night Market, a lively scene of stalls where good-natured bargaining skills come in handy
6) Nightlife is a happening affair in Georgetown. As night falls, people would be thronging the streets to let their hair down at a pub or a nightclub, particularly along the stretch of Jalan Penang from Cititel Hotel and to where it intersects with Lebuh Farquhar. Some of Georgetown’s best-known pubs and bars are located within hotels, particularly along or around Jalan Penang.
7) Penangites are fanatically proud of their food. Be sure to try out the variety of food available, which some even consider best in Malaysia ;).
Penang Island is one of the must see places if you're planning to visit Malaysia.. With everything to offer, it rarely dissappoints any traveller..
PROUD TO BE A PENANGITE :)
