Around 1930, Zainuddin who is makassar-ian was sailing toward his hometown of his father at Batipuh, Padang Panjang. There, he met a beautiful ladies named Hayati who was a famous ladies at that place and become flower of her ethnic. Both of them were fall in love with each other but strong tradition and ethic of the ethnic was made them difficult to be together. This is happening because Zainuddin is not a pure ethnic of minangkabau because his father who is minang ethnic married with his mother who is Bugis blooded. So, minang ethnic were assumed that Zainuddin is not related anymore to them while Hayati is pure Minangkabau blooded and also a noble bloooded.

At last, Zainuddin proposal were rejected by Hayati Family. Hayati were forced to marry Aziz who is rich  gentleman that being attraction to Hayati's family rather than Zainuddin. Zainuddin was upset and decided that want to travel to java island to overcome his broken love. Zainuddin workhard to create a new book of his life. Lastly, Zainuddin become a famous writer with his well known quote and love by all community of the nation.
